PTSD Treatment

PTSD Treatment with LENS Neurofeedback, Brain Supplements and Mindfulness

While the brain has an enormous potential to adapt and improve itself, it can also change in negative ways under stress. These changes can lead to maladaptive emotional and behavioral patterns that we call Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). At Echo Rock Neurotherapy, we use Low Energy Neurofeedback Systems (LENS) to help those suffering from PTSD to overcome their symptoms.

The Body Keeps the Score, by Bessel Van Der Kolk, MD

“No matter how much insight and understanding we develop, the rational brain is basically impotent to talk the emotional brain out of its own reality.”

Causes of PTSD

There are many ways one can develop PTSD. Research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one in five Americans experienced sexually assault as a child, one in four physically assaulted, one in three couples have been violent, and a quarter of us grew up with an alcoholic relative. Any of these circumstances can, when combined with a genetic predisposition  lead to PTSD. It is common among trauma survivors to minimize the impact that trauma has had on their life, especially if it was many years ago. In reality, the emotional centers of the brain are still disrupted from the event(s). Regardless of the cause, the trauma survivor is not to blame.

Do I Have PTSD?

Sometimes, the trauma survivor experiences isolation, surprise at their reactions, anger, and extreme sensitivity. One of the 5.2 million Americans who will suffer from PTSD just this yearǂ. An estimated 7.8% of all Americans will experience PTSD at some point in their lives. While many hypotheses exist for how to treat the disorder, few treatments activate plasticity in the brain like LENS Neurotherapy does. We help trauma survivors come to terms with their histories and re-consolidate traumatic memories.

LENS applies to other post-traumatic stress conditions.

While PTSD is perhaps the most commonly recognized name, many of the same symptoms and treatments can apply to many other conditions. These include childhood trauma, adult children of alcoholics, combat veteran syndrome, panic attacks, or childhood sexual abuse. Regardless of the name, LENS is one of the most sophisticated treatments available.

How is LENS neurofeedback different?

When compared with traditional neurofeedback training, LENS can be twice as fast and effective in freeing us from childhood traumatic memories and adult PTSD.  Most importantly, it is safe.  LENS is also far more pleasant than many alternative treatment. Unlike EMDR trauma therapy, neurofeedback does not require re-visiting painful memories. Unlike medication, neurofeedback for PTSD does not dull us to the joys of life — many patients in fact report a calm, pleasant mood following each session. The benefits are also lasting. After a series of sessions, the changes become permanent.

Currently, the most innovative trauma clinics and advanced practitioners around the world are integrating neurofeedback with their treatment. At Echo Rock Neurotherapy, we not only use LENS, but also introduce an integrative approach that includes testing of brain neurotransmitter balance and mindfulness training. The road to recovery from trauma has become much easier.  Now is the time to let go of the past.
