Head Trauma and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Treatment with LENS Neurofeedback, Brain Supplements and Mindfulness

” …Use neurofeedback to help with the hyperarousal, confusion, and concentration problems of people who suffer from developmental trauma. ” The Body Keeps the Score, by Bessel Van Der Kolk, MD, p. 328″It calmed me down.  It stopped the dissociation.  Neurofeedback made it possible for me to have a relationship.  Neurofeedback freed me up to live my life the way I want to, because I’m not always in the thrall of how I was hurt.” p. 329

The Bad News:

Small bumps to the head add up to big losses of concentration and attention. You don’t have to have a history of contact sports or fender- bender whiplash to suffer from head-trauma symptoms such as memory loss, irritability, foggy thinking, procrastination, light sensitivity, and low confidence.

The Good News:

Inexpensive EEG neurofeedback  can now restore your brain’s optimal functioning after  head trauma. Thousands of clients have reported easier thinking, contentment, clarity, energy regulation, greater awareness, new confidence based on experience, better concentration, and wise decisions after their sessions. In Low Energy Neurofeedback (LENS), an EEG reads brainwaves on the head, and faintly echoes them back through the same three sensor wires for just a few seconds.  Our wise brains use this faint yet accurate information to reorganize priorities, letting go of obsessive energy patterns that still defend against the head trauma that has already happened.  The result is a spacious mind, with new resources to easily handle the challenges of today.

More Good News: Most of my health-professional colleagues agree that LENS neurofeedback is the preferred treatment for thinking problems after head trauma.  And TBI symptoms are also the easiest thing for LENS to fix! Therefor we are confident and optimistic with anyone who has a lifetime history of several blows to the head.  The results are evident to the majority of these clients after the first session. Often just a few sessions are needed to restore full mental functioning.

Facts About Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI, formerly called concussions):

Children at Play

  • Concussion, or mild traumatic brain Injury, is the most un-diagnosed cause of ADD symptoms.
  • An estimated 5.3 million men, women, and children are living with a permanent TBI-related disability in the United States today.
  • Cognitive, emotional, and sensory impairments often permanently alter a person’s vocational, social and family relationships—an invisible epidemic.

Keller [63] demonstrated with a group of 12 patients with TBI that ten sessions of EEG biofeedback improved attentional abilities (in 8 patients) and were superior to ten 30-minute sessions using two standard software computerized attention-training programs [64,65]. Entire article

Parent’s TBI story from Mill Valley, CA
Our son was diagnosed with ADHD and dysgraphia after three “ordinary” falls at age 5. We tried many therapies, with only slight improvements, and kept searching for a way to return his brain to normal functioning. He is 20 now, and we finally found it.

The Low Energy Neurofeedback System is a recent development in brainwave biofeedback that can restore optimal mental functioning. LENS is an enormously significant treatment breakthrough, one of the most important developments in decades. It’s like pushing the reset button on your brain. The brain returns to its natural, healthy state.

The lens process does not require concentrated effort over forty sessions, like traditional entrainment neurofeedback—our son could not have sat still for that!  Lens treatments are passive and only last a few minutes.

After 15 treatments our son is a changed person.  We watched him improve from only being able to tolerate thirty minutes of study, to concentrating for three hours straight. For the first time since age five he feels socially confident.  And for the first time in class, he can focus on facts long enough to remember them. His explosive frustration is gone. His underlying kind and happy nature is now normal, even in challenging situations.

I only wish I had known about LENS neurotherapy sooner.  Thank you, Len Ochs, for developing it, and thank you, Echo Rock Therapy Center, for making it available. They say it works for 85% of people, and with such a life-changing payoff, I consider those odds fantastic.
